Time temperature superposition of the dissolution of cellulose fibres by the ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate with cosolvent dimethyl sulfoxide

چکیده

The dissolution of cellulosic flax fibres in the ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([C2mim][OAc]) with cosolvent dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) has been studied. were submerged liquid/DMSO mixtures at different temperatures for a range times, then coagulated water. After drying, cross sections analysed using an optical microscope, which was used to track fraction fibre. temperature dependence this is found follow Arrhenius equation single activation energy 100±10 kJ/mol. This value is, remarkably, independent weight DMSO used. work quantifies composition peak rate, occurs equal and [C2mim][OAc]. Finally, study reveals equivalence between time, fibres.

Thermodynamics of cellulose dissolution in an imidazolium acetate ionic liquid.

The heat of dissolution of cellulose in one imidazolium acetate ionic liquid was determined experimentally. The value of -132 ± 8 J g(-1) indicates that the dissolution is exothermal thus confirming energetically favourable cellulose-ionic liquid interactions but indicating that an increase in temperature does not thermodynamically favour the dissolution process.
